Inception . pencil, phtoshop cs2
Notes: I figured I might as well enter something into the contest, seeing as how much I love this movie. The only thing I had clear in mind what that I wanted to include Sonia prominently on the cover.
I spent a good hour or two trying to find the perfect cocktail dress as a reference, only to end up drawing her draped in a towel. The rest of the elements came about rather organically. I wanted to feature the other main players in the story, tried to do it using hieratic scale.
There was a lot of things in the script that I liked, but I tried to keep the references simple, for an uncluttered design. I can't seem to get away from drawing my swirly clouds.
This took approximately 6-7 hours from inception to end.

regularjane+Feedback is much appreciated.

While the scale you used does work well, it provided an obstacle for you composition-wise that I think could be fixed: because the two characters below are so small, the bright white outline you used almost overwhelms their images, which creates such contrast that distracts from their detail and from the focal point of the image.
They also seem out of place from the rest of the image, white outline aside. They seem to be floating in space beside the composition but aren't really engaged in it like the other three are. Because of this, I don't know much more you have to say about their characters than that they exist.
The background textures don't hold any apparent meaning to them either unless the viewer were to know the story/movie very well. Why use more than one background image? I'm not saying you shouldn't have more than one; I'm just saying that it's not apparent to me what the purpose is in having two.
Overall, you have a very balanced, flowing, mysterious piece. It obviously correlates to a certain dream and would make a cool cover if it were polished up a bit, I think. Good job!
